Arrrgh! Attention Gym Owners! Want your gym to be the best in the world? Your gym could be improved 1000% with a few minor changes and most of these dont cost anything! If I opened a gym I would make it the best gym in the world by doing the following:Rip the speakers out! No music! 99% of the people hate the music that is being played anyway. Back in the '60s gyms played music because there were no portable music players, the Sony Walkman hadnt been invented yet. Wake up gym owners! MP3 players cost less than a day-use...

Music and Bodybuilding

Is music motivational or distracting? It can be either so be really careful! Music plays an incredibly important part in focus and it can make or break a workout. We have all seen this many times at the gym, the person who seems to be endlessly fiddling with their MP3 player or iPod/iPhone. They seem to lose track of time and take enormous breaks between sets or don't seem to be working out at all. They really want to hear that great song but they just cant find it.The time to make a music playlist is before your workout, not...

My first run since the shoulder surgery!

I was SO excited yesterday, I got the stitches out! I was able to do many things that were forbidden since the surgery. I went on my first run, oh that was liberating! You can see that it was a beautiful day too, it felt good to drip sweat without having to worry about it causing infection in my sutures. I also was able to take my first real shower, oh how glorious to be able to stand under the shower head without having my shoulder wrapped in saran wrap, paranoid that a drop of water might get by. The...

"If it tastes good, spit it out!" Jack LaLanne 96th Birthday tribute

Jack LaLanne is 96 years old on Sunday! Truly a pioneer in fitness and health at least 50 years ahead of his time. He was my very first exposure to fitness and a lasting influence. Two of Jack LaLanne's quotes that I think are even more important today than when he said them in the 1960's:"If it tastes good, spit it out!" "If man made it, don't eat it!"Those two simple statements are a brilliant encapsulation of what good nutrition is all about. Food technology has advanced to the point where artificial flavors can be engineered to be so tasty...

Pot, Bodybuilding and California’s Proposition 19

Three cheers for California's Proposition 19 (Legalization of Marijuana)! Many people took my video here as anti-pot, it wasnt! I went out of my way saying I was for the legalization of marijuana. Stress causes high blood pressure and I think one could make a very good case that lowering stress levels with an occasional joint could be a much healthier way of managing high blood pressure than the hundreds of millions of high blood pressure pills that Americans pop every year.Having said that, pot and bodybuilding dont mix if you are a serious bodybuilder or serious athlete! If you...

Weight Loss: Portion Control

Caution: You can always out-eat your exercise! The AskScooby Forum has been really good for my continued education which is odd because I didnt anticipate that outcome at all! I started the forum as a way to help others but as it turns out, it has been an excellent place to refine my fitness ideas and continue learning. We have some amazing moderators on the forum who have challenged positions on many issues and caused me to critically re-examine them. Bodybuilding is a lifelong learning process, even I continue to learn! I always laugh when there are expensive eBooks and website...

Junk food

So I was shopping today for next weeks video - care to guess what the theme is? I felt so guilty buying this stuff. Everytime I would put something in my cart I would glance around first to make sure nobody was watching. I put off checkout as long as I could, dreading the cashiers snide look of disdain when they saw all this crud. The frightening thing is, he didnt even bat an eyelash! I then realized it was silly to have worried because this is how the average American eats, they see carts filled with junk like this...
