I'm 48 years old and have been weight training since I was 21 and am quite active in beach volleyball and cycling.  I reached my genetic potential about nine years ago and have been stable at 235lbs with 8% body fat since then.  I lift weights five times a week for an hour and do about 10hrs of cardio a week in the form of beach volleyball and hill-climbing cycling.  Although I have given up on being vegan, I have drastically cut my meat/chicken/fish consumption. Most of my protein comes from beans, brown rice, oats, and is supplemented with dairy whey.

I harp on everyone else to have fitness goals, so here are mine.  I'm turning 50 in two years and I want to do a full triathlon in a respectable finish time.  The cycling is easy for me but the running is going to be a major challenge.  Clydesdales like myself get lots of knee problems when they attempt to run so I am starting veeeerrrrrryyyyy slowly and running only on rubber tracks for now.  I'm using the "couch to 5K" program which seems to be a really good program.  I am adding 1/4 mile to my runs every week till I get up to 6 miles, this week I ran 2.25miles on MWF.  I will very slowly introduce hard-surface running in 6 months or so.  I figure it will take me at least a year to slowly condition my body to be able to handle the pounding of running.  Although I'm comfortable in the water, I havent swam laps for over a decade and I've never done open water swimming so I have my work cut out for me in the water as well.  Anyway, thats my fitness goal - whats yours?????

I have no medical training or personal training credentials, my experience is practical:

  • 25 years lifting experience.

  • Through good form I have never had an injury in the weight room, a real rarity in the bodybuilding.

  • Bodybuilding has allowed me to remain active and competitive in sports.

  • My B.S. in Engineering, makes me question everything.

  • Lots of experience recovering from sports related injuries (snowboarding, volleyball, water polo, etc).

  • With stretching, proper posture, and bodybuilding have keep my chronic back pain in check.

I'd love to hear if you have topics of general interest to everyone that could be added to this website as I am always trying to improve it.  Those topics with the most requests get added to the website first.  I'm sorry though, I cannot answer personalized health/fitness questions.  Back when my website was less known, I prided myself on answering every single email and providing training advice for anyone who asked but now I get close to a hundred emails a day and there is no way I can answer any if I am to continue work on my videos and on this website.  If you have health questions, asking your physician is the probably the best thing to do.  If you want a personalized training program, excellent personal trainers can be hired at the local gym - they usually charge about $70/hr.  Ok, having said all that, here's my email.

I am experimenting with a forum where I can answer your questions, its called Ask Scooby.  If you are experienced, please help out and answer other peoples questions as well!  No registration is required.
