877EKM's tutorial for those who want to use the search button effectively:

There are 2 searches: Quick search & Advanced (magnify glass)

-------------------
Quick Search Guide:

-If you want to find a topic quickly (useful just to browse the topics) type some key words:

ex) Protein Shake Recipie

The search will bring up anything containing "protein" "shake" "recipie" in any order or anything containing just 1 of these words.

Search results: I don't know any good recipies that are high in protein. Yesterday I had a shake.......

I bought a shake and it was packed with protein, but I can make better ones at home with my recipie

I made a good cookie recipe, then I shaked some sugar on top. Bad snack for a bodybuilder who needs protein

--------------------------------
You didn't find what you wanted? Put more detail and use quotes " "

Quotes tell the search to bring the exact phrase in the quotes

ex) "protein shake recipies"

--> Search will show up with topics with the exact phrase ".. Protein shake recipies" Be precise with quotes and don't search backwards like "recipies shake protein".

Search result: Does anyone know of any protein shake recipies?

I had some great protein shake recipies but....

*Hint* Search is not case sensitive and it will search the entire forum for posts up to 9999 days old (roughly 27 years Smiley)

Advanced Search
-----------------
When the simple search fails, use the advanced. (Good for finding an old post)

Search For: Put your key words in here, and you can use quotes like the simple search. Next to it you can see a drop down box: Match all & Match exact

Match all: Will find the syntax (words) much like the simple search

Match exact: Uses the same feature like the quotes
------------------
ex) "Protein shake" recipe [match all words]

-->finds the phrase "protein+shake" and "recipe" in any order

Search Result:

I love shakes, especially protein shakes. Man I wish I had a recipie....
------------------
ex) "bouncy shit" "scooby said" video [match exact words]

***will find the phrase in that order "bouncy..."->"scooby....."-->"video"***

Search Result: Bouncy shit is what Scooby said in his youtube video

Scooby's new video said Bouncy shit. Can't believe Scooby said that in his video!!!
-------------------
By User: If you know who posted it, put there name.

ex) By User: 877EKM
-->brings stuff up by me

lets say you can't spell it, or don't know it exactly

ex)By User: Sc*

-->Using * puts in a wildcard, so the search will find anything with Sc*

Result: Brings posts by poster's Scooby, ScoobyFan, SCavenger

-------------------
Options: You can tell the search the key words either the message or topic

Search Order
: How you want your results organized (i.e Most recent)

Board Search
: Select which boards you want searched

Message Age: Searches 27 years of posts (internet hasn't been around for 27 years yet)
