Hello everyone Smiley

Well, I guess I'll start my very first post here with a question ^_^

My parents have an infrared sauna (it helps my dad with his back pain, and it's actually quite enjoying too)
I don't use it very often (certainly not now, during the summer, as temperatures are high enough for me already)
But today, something came to my mind. In there, you sweat alot, and sweating uses up a whole lot of energy.

Then, I searched the internet, and different sites state that in half an hour, you can loose about 600-800 calories in just one session of 30 minutes. Besides that, our seller said a healthy session can be 45 mins at the most and you can do it everyday.
So technically, that means you could use up a 1000 calories every singly day while you're doing nothing really Huh?

What are your opinions about this? Cause if the above is true, I might consider going in there a bit more often Smiley (come to think of it, it wouldn't be too bad for my acne either Tongue )

Hmmm i think it's another myth that raising body temp. will get you leaner.

Sauna for sure will get you more healthy because it will remove toxic from your body but i don't know about burning fat.

Saunas does not burn fat, they drain your water. That's the reason why you probably can lose 1-2 lb after 20 minutes, but you'll be thirsty afterwards.

I doubt it actually burns calories; you might notice a small amount of weight loss due to sweat/water loss, but that should hardly be considered a fitness benefit.

My old gym had one, but it wasnt IR. After eating and going into it for 15 min, I would get really hungry  Wink

They feel good, but the only weight that is lost is the water from the sweating.

When you sweat your body is using bodiliy fluids in an attempt to keep you cool. There's not going to be any burning of fat from sitting there in heat. There's no fat in sweat as far as i know lol

I don't think this would be effective. Not because I have scientific facts, but using logic, doesn't your heart need increased BPM in order to burn fat?

I've never heard of it burning calories before, but I think some wrestlers use it to help get rid of waterweight when they're trying to make weight class.

If you go from the pool to the sauna, it can be a really good pump for your lymph system, that's a reason to do it, for sure.

You can lose about 300-500 calories for 30 min in the sauna.
U. S.  Army research shows infrared sauna use can burn as many as 300 to 600 calories during one sauna session.  This happens due to the sweating process itself, as well as increased heart rate.

IR sauna is regular sauna. Only if it were Ultraviolet sauna or X-ray sauna or whatever would it be any different.

I think you just lose water weight. . . be careful though, you don't want to raise your BP too much. .
