Good and informative video. Are you wearing denim JEANS? Jeans for this high flexing/movement may hinder range of motion and may in rarer cases cause instability which could lead to injury. I normally do my workouts in my underwear, but I'm not going to do that in front of a camera. At least not without some bribes

I don't do that anymore. The applause is too distracting.

In the video you can see Evilcyber's knee goes beyond his toes (knee bending forwards).. isn't it just like in squats where you shouldn't actually do that? that's why you stick your butt out when you do squats... I actually tried this step up now.. and it's hard doing it without going beyond the toes.. I still think it's a good exercise but just thought I'd mention it... Any thoughts??
Cheers,
Tinman

You are a keen observer and that's a good question! If you are at 90° in the starting position it is in my opinion not possible to get up on the chair / bench without having your knee slightly ahead of your toes for a moment, as you otherwise would lose balance.
I still consider this exercise safe at the 90° angle, but if you want to make extra sure for the sake of your knees, use a lower platform.

Phew, tough question - there are so many topics that should be addressed. I will for sure finish the losing weight series. When it comes to demonstrating exercises I'm thinking about showing squats to a bench / chair, as many people ask about squats and can't do Scooby's skateboard squats for lack of a suitable wall. Doing them to a chair might be the next best safe alternative.

I'm not sure about the safety component of box squatting, as I fear many people will sooner or later start bouncing off the chair/box and exposes their spines to serious injuries.

Yep, that's what I'm pondering forth and back. It's so damn easy to hurt yourself doing this exercise wrong. On the other hand I think that showing how to do it's safer form correctly may at least be better than no guidance at all, if someone wants to do it no matter what.

Do squats on a big medicine ball or smaller fitness ball (the inflatable kind that you can do crunches on, etc.) A big medicine ball would work because they don't easily roll, they're not hard, but they are firm.

hmm, i always thought squats would be a great idea with a self spotting rig. but it would have to be a really strong one and probably take up a lot of room. but it would be safe to do squats then with proper technique, no? but no, i'm not asking Cyber to build one.
