You hear allot of different things about the yolks being good or bad for you. What is your opinion?

The yolk makes up about 33% of the liquid weight of the egg; it contains approximately 60 calories, three times the caloric content of the egg white.
One large egg (50 grams in weight, 17 gram yolk) contains approximately: 2.7g protein, 210 mg cholesterol, 0.61g carbohydrates and 4.51g total fat. (USDA National Nutrient Database)
All of the fat soluble vitamins, (A, D, E and K) are found in the egg yolk. Egg yolks are one of the few foods naturally containing vitamin D.

Egg yolks are good for you. People complain that they have cholesterol, but it's good cholesterol that your body needs. You don't need to go eating tons and tons of yolks though, generally a 4:1 or 3:1 ratio of whites to yolks is good. I'll eat 6 eggs but leave out all but 1 or 2 yolks. EDIT: Also, boiled or poached as opposed to fried

One large egg (50 grams in weight, 17 gram yolk) contains approximately: 2.7g protein, actually, 1 large egg has 6g protein and 70 calories. almost 2/3 of the calories in whole eggs come from fat, which is why they are not recommended for bodybuilders. for every 30 calories of egg whites however, you get 7g protein.

Egg whites are pure protein. I suggest you drop the yolk. It's not a benefit for bodybuilders nutrition.

I eat eggs because I like them. Both yolks and whites, might not be the best food but TBH I don't care.

egg yolks actually are good for you because it contains most of the nutrients in the egg but you shouldn't eat more then 2 or 3 egg yolks a day

I feal that egg whites are the best bang for thebuck so to say. you get alot of volume for a fraction of calories. 4 egg whites make a very large meal. i buy the carton of them. costs a little more but makes life easier

Why does everyone talk like bodybuilders are supposed to care about nothing but protein/calorie ratio? Who even says dietary fat is not recommended for bodybuilders? Unless you're a supernatural creature who can somehow manage to dissolve fat soluble vitamins without fats, somehow make essential fatty acids on your own, somehow create testosterone without cholesterol, etc etc, you need fat. Fat is not only unnecessary calories, in fact FAT is essential, not carbs - Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying carbs are not important. Here is what egg yolks have but whites don't: Vitamin B6, B12, D, E, A, Thiamin, Minerals zinc, iron, calcium, phosphorus and I've specifically picked micro/macronutrients that are directly or indirectly important for a bodybuilder or somebody who follows a high protein diet, I'm not talking about other stuff. Then I'll hear people saying "Uhh, it's hard to get vitamin D in winter, I'll just go for multivitamins." Sure you won't get it if you live on chicken breast, protein shake and egg whites, many people even avoid milk. "It's for making calves fat cows OMG, I'll get fat." Personally I eat both yolks and whites. I'm not saying go eat 10 eggs a day, but if I were given 3 eggs and said to pick either yolk or white, I'd choose to eat 3 yolks. Nutrition is not only about calories and protein. I have many friends that eat 6 whites and no yolks every morning, to me that's ridiculous, I believe 3 whole eggs is much better. Not to mention it's such a waste. I've thrown out yolks before when I had to eat too many of them on a day but I've always saved them for others that would make cake with them or use them in other foods. People treat it like rubbish, it's ridiculous. This is not a topic where we are supposed to judge views on throwing foods or ethics though, so I'll stop it but here is my final words: Eat yolks so that less chickens are born, that way maybe we'll save people who live on chicken breasts Whole eggs for the winner!

if you like eggs then egg whites are the way to go. like i said i like the most food for the fewest calories. its simple math, take 1/2 cup egg whites vs 1/2 cup whole eggs. true that you need fats in a diet. but to eat that many eggs daily is bad. so to sum it up if you love eggs and alot of food for few calories white are the only way to go

Ratio of calories to protein in the whole eggs is not even bad. It's about 10:1, which is good. You know, this is better than beans, plain boiled beans, with no oil or sauce on them (Not to mention amino acid profile of eggs is much better). If it had 150 calories for 5 gram of protein, then I'd understand but it's only 60-70 calories for 6-7 gram of protein, and again, it's not just protein and calories, but with everything else it gives me (miconutritents, the fat content in whole yolks that keep me fuller than just whites, etc), it's not bad at all. I have 3 whole eggs everyday, my bodyfat % and cholesterol levels are pretty good. After getting my HDL & LDL checked, I'm even more comfortable with eggs now. If I ate more than 3 though, then I may consider taking yolks out. However, nobody can convince me that making whole eggs the main food of one of my meals per day will hurt me (Obviously, without overeating them. But that applies to everything. Even if you drink too much water, it will hurt you).
