Yeah, you read right. I just ate 6 pieces of cake!! My stomach feels like crap now and I strongly regret what I did, even though it tasted like heaven. Damn!
Anyways, the point in this:
Often, I am offered free stuff like cake, and at times, I have a hard time resisting them. Today there was some chocolate cake with icing on, it looked awesome and I thought, oh well, a single piece can't be too harmful? So I took a piece, and BAM, I acquired myself another 5 pieces.
So my question is, do you guys have any kind of techniques to avoid eating bad stuff like cake? Like, a mindset or something. A punishment for when it does happen. What works for you guys?
How do you avoid eating all the delicious stuff like candy and cake? Where do you get the motivation from that keeps you off the bad stuff?
p.s Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often. But I do get really pissed off when it happens. I generally eat healthy and do lots of cardio, but sometimes I just cant resist all the bad stuff.
Thanks in advance!

Well, for me, I have a reputation at work for being someone who doesn't eat cake, cookies, donuts, etc., so I seldom get offered any. When I feel obligated to eat something like this (celebrating someone's birthday, etc.) I eat it VERY slowly, taking small bites.
At home... I just don't buy any of that stuff, so it's not there to eat!

The thing is, I live at a school, and every night there is some kind of get-together where you often get offered cake and besides that just tee and coffee. So when I sit at a table with many of my friends, all of them sit back and enjoys the cake I just feel more tempted when everyone else eats it. Anyways, next time there is cake, I'll do everything I can to avoid it. Actually I just thought of an idea: whenever I see there is cake, I run out of the room as quick as I can, go to my room, and eat some oats with milk! How does that sound it's a bit optimistic though and I can't assure that I can do it. Thanks for the input! More ideas are welcome

While it isn't good to eat cake, and certainly not loads of it at once, it isn't the end of the world.
What you should do, and what I have seen mentioned on here a few times, is treat yourself occasionally, but just in moderation. Maybe once a week have a piece of cake, hopefully by doing something like that you might be able to think to yourself, when offered other pieces of cake, no I will have my cake friday as usual.
From a personal point of view, I am fortunate in that I don't have a sweet tooth and as such have no problem turning down chocolate and cakes and biscuits etc when they are offered to me. The odd occassion twice a year when I do really fancy something like cake or chocolate, then I just indulge a little knowing that it is only a little bit.

Hahaha i know what you mean!! Well you can eat cake now and then , its not bad. Just.. Try not to eat it all at once.. What i suggest you do is either : Ask if any1 else wants it Think of hot people Go do something else Or just think as if you were allergic to it Usually when i eat like one cookie and theres like. say... 3 cookies left.. Somehow there will be 0 cookies left. What happens to me is that... theres no more , so i cant really eat anymore.. So what you can do is think as if it wasnt really there..

Here are two ways of limiting intake -
a. This is the most consistent way of limiting intake short of self-restraint (which it appears you're having trouble with). Eat Slower Most people consume a lot because they eat quickly, then 5-10 minutes or so their stomach notifies them that they just ate a lot. If you eat more slowly, i.e., a piece of cake over 5-10 minutes, you'll finish it as you begin digesting it, and you'll be less hungry. This is applicable to meals too - if you have a generic veggie+protein+glass of water meal, eat the veggies slowly, and drink all the water first (a nice 500ml is a way to do this). That way, by the end, you're nice and full.
b. Drink water. If I'm going to an event or situation where I know I will be eating/drinking something bad, I drink a large 1.5L of water right before. Drink 1.5L in 3 minutes, then try eating 5 pieces of cake - you can't do it. Sweet things make your body want more calories - this is why diet soda has been linked to weight gain. A piece of cake has little fibre and a lot of sugar - it's not filling and your body craves even more.
hope that helps

All good advice here.
I don't eat sweets, and back when I worked in a "traditional office" environment (one of the most physically and mentally unhealthy environment in human society IIMHO) I got labeled by some round happy project manager as a "problem employee" because I didn't eat her cake and cookies, or come running when she brought "snacks" into the break room.
While I don't binge on sweets, my weakness is potato chips (so I don't buy them) and wine/beer/scotch.
For me, the trick is to put myself into situations where I am forced to limit myself to one (or two). So, I motorcycle to events in the summer (I don't drink and ride) or I make sure I am the designated driver. Also, I schedule cardio in the evening, or make sure I coach sports for my kids.

I always eat good food(like oatmeal)before I go to a birthdayparty etc. That way im not hungry, and its easier to limit what you eat. If I feel like it, i will have a piece of cake(on the rare occation someone makes a cake that doesn´t taste like sugar..)and i don´t feel guilty

what is the problem? just do more cardio and you'll burn it off. im guessing you need about 2 hours cardio to burn that. so if you would eat so much everyday you would have to spend everyday 2 hours doing cardio and I doubt you have time or motivation to do that.

hmm, do you let yourself a cheat meal every now and then, say once a week? not going overboard obviously, but just enough to satisfy your cravings? if not, you may have deprived yourself continuously, leading to a binge.

Strange, I rarely like sweet stuff. Yes I do feel that this or that cake is delicious, but I'm not dying to have it. I don't love soft drink either. Is it on the gene?
