Well, we always here the same thing about Cholesterol, thats its not good for you and we shouldn't intake to much of it. This seems to be a major issue as to why eggs are bashed quite abit. So, my question is, what exactly is Cholesterol, and what are its effects? Ive been curious for some time and would love to have opinions!>

I'm not quite sure about this, but i think there exist two types of cholesterol, one good and one bad. The bad is important to keep your cardio vascular system okay...
Also cholestrerol is needed for the hormon system, but i don't know how exactly right now.
With the egg issue: A studie has shown that an egg per day is no problem whatsoever. The body will decrease his own cholestorol production and the bloodlevels stay the same, i personaly don't fear eggs at all...

Cholestrol is needed by a cell as it keeps it fluid thats why its necessary.
There are two types of cholestrol LDL (low density lipoprotein) being "bad" and HDL (high density lipoprotein) being "good". When too much bad cholesterol circulates in the blood, it can slowly build up in the inner walls of the arteries that feed the heart and brain causing a clot and eventually a heart attack or stroke. Saturated fats tend to be the result in high cholesterol levels. HDL the good cholestrol is shown to reduce heart disease. Unsaturated fats along with excersise tend to raise the levels of HDL and lower the levels of LDL in the blood, which is why it is favored.

Cholesterol is never a bad thing because your liver will produce cholesterol when your diet lacks it. If you ate a lot of cholesterol your body has no need to make it because you supplied it by your diet. Same way around:Eating low cholesterol foods will make your liver produce more cholesterol if given adequate nutrients to do so.

With out cholesterol your cell's will be fluid and flabby breaking apart because along with fat it builds up and makes strong membranes. It also acts as a communication device between & inside cells. The cholesterol you don't want to put in your body is damage cholesterol from high heat processesing. This type can have free radicals being put into your body, which in that sense it's bad to have high LDL levels.

LDL and HDL are not types of cholesterol but lipoproteins that carry cholesterol through the blood

Low Density Lipoproteins: carries cholesterol to the arteries

High Density Lipoproteins: carries cholesterol away from arteries

Low Density Lipoproteins: carries cholesterol to the arteries

High Density Lipoproteins: carries cholesterol away from arteries
