Okay, so today my friend Jessie texted me and she wants me to help train her.  she said she wants to be all around strong, and most importantly she wants abs.  I think I already know what I'm gonna do for her, but what are some lifts that you girls do? or what do you see girls do a lot of at gyms.  We are working out at the fitness center, not at home.  We pretty much have everything in our gym.

Kk.. nothing major then?  Me and my friend Josh said that by the end of the year we are gonna try to get her squat up to 225, and bench to 135, and  still get her some abs.  It'll be a fun challenge, but if shes dedicated it shouldnt be too bad.

Goldie said it in one dude, your bodies are virtually the same muscle wise however the female frame is not as robust. Make sure before you do any lifting with her that you're using a safe weight. You don't want to injure her early on (or at all!) as it'll be a huge setback.

Also, it's good to have goals but are they HER goals? She said she wants to be all around stronger and to have abs, the thing is.. there are a few ways to tackle this. Does she want to BULK up? Or does she want to TONE up? I'd assume she'd want to tone her abs so, unlike yourself, lifting heavy weights isn't the way to go. Bear in mind that everyone has a sixpack, it's usually just hidden behind fat. To get her abs in showroom condition she needs to eat a good diet and use weights where she can do approx 20-25 reps. Anything higher and in the long run she'll get hypertrophy of the muscles and might start to look like a dude.  Shocked

Before you set any figures or expectations, test her out and see what she can do. Determine how much she can safely lift by picking a challenging but safe weight and seeing how many reps she can do with it and then adjust accordingly so she can do the required reps to tone.

Yeah I know.. Its just gonna be hard to make sure she has good nutrition because, her family, like everyone else, still thinks that just because it says "healthy", means it actually is..  I watched her lift, and she could do a lot less than I originally thought. I didnt have her do any benching, or any advanced exercises at all.  but she had trouble with calf raisers at 135, she couldnt do them.  she struggled at 95 but still got them up.  for stuff like arm raises for 10, she was struggling with 8's, and eventually went to 5's and 3's.  But you know what?  I really don't care how much she does, it doesn't matter.  She did all the exercises I told her to do, she did them just fine, and I'm very glad she did.  on top of that, there was minimal complaining, and it went over very well.  I just hope she comes again  Cheesy

I should have asked this before, how much does she weigh? Is she slender or 'big boned'?

Lifting with different weight causes a different muscle reaction. If she lifts regularly at or near her maximal capacity she'll get hypertrophy (an increase in muscle fibre size and density - I doubt this is what she meant when she said 'overall strength increase'), if she lifts regularly with approx 40-60% of her maximal capacity she'll tone what she's got - combined with a good diet she'll be on the road to having an awesome body.

A regular occurance with endurance training is to find a weight they can lift and then knock back the weight significantly to allow higher reps. See my previous post. Smiley

I think she weighs about like 125ish.  shes not too skinny, but deff not a 6 pack.  She didnt show up today, but it doesnt really matter to me. I mean, yeah it would be fun to have someone else to lift with (someone about 35 years younger than my current partners  Cheesy)  but it's not like her coming or not defines my lifts.  Although, I can say that today I benched 240, and I am happy.  I'vebeen told that I am the strongest 14 year old in my school history.

i think you misunderstood what james was trying to say.  what he was trying to say is that no body cares how much you can lift and we're all pretty tired of you bragging multiple times a day.   Smiley

Unless you read my old posts, I havn't talked about my maxes in a while, aside from my signature.  Pretty much the only time I list how much weight I do is when I give examples of my plan.  Also, a lot of times I use random axamples like "If you can do 100 pounds, then try 85 for a 3 rep" or something like that.

hmm, usually under 24 hours isn't really a while....

HAHA  I laugh at gym teachers... most of them know absolutly nothing.  Last year my gym teacher said that I have perfect squat form, and I go well below parallel, and he wishes more people were like me.

we'd really appreciate it if you please wouldn't go out of your way to boast, because that's very arrogant.
What's wrong with lifting belts?  I use them all the time.  Not so much for deadlifts, but if I ever go higher than 365 on deads I use a belt, and for squat, once I hit 275 I use a belt.

Look at the 2nd part of the 2nd quote... it said "But it turns out my gym teacher was wrong, some guy came up to me and said "If oyu keep squatting like that, you are going to blow your knees out,  so I changed my form"  and the 3rd quote, I was telling the guy that even though I go heavier than I should, without a belt, he should wear one becuase his doctors tell him to, and I said that if oyu don't wear a belt it will work out your abs more.  Seriously michael...  those 2 are probably the worst quotes you could have quoted me on.  If oyu would have read my posts better, you would realize they are just regular posts, nothing to brag about.  Oh and just becuase I post my routine and weight I do on random places, doesnt mean that I brag about it...
