i dont see anything wrong with deadlifts. . .  imo they r the best workout for lower back and gives a great testosterone pump.  the only major concern is that form has to be strictly enforced as its very easy to cause injury.  the easiest way is just to practice with the bar next to a mirror so u can see if your back is bending or not.  if your sure your doing it right, just gradually stack on the weights and remember, using your legs is the key.  in saying that i would also like to see a lower back exercise video that includes doing deadlift with proper technique.

well other than the deadlift rambling we've been doing...

this is an obscenely important muscle, everyone works abs all day and say "o my backs safe from injury"  while what they forgot is there's actually muscle back there! so now they're not only unbalanced but there's actually nothing fortifying  the joint...

kinda like when coaches say "ok on alternating days do a few hundred push ups and say 200 crunches in addition to practice" this unbalances you too.. same stuff. just coaches plan from last year forgets lats in addition to the lower back so you're a dried up lamed leaf.  nice eh? yes in his opinion push ups and crunches are a full body workout...

I would really want to see how Scooby would recommend on the lower back.   The lower back is, needless to say, an essential part.   But as far as my experience goes, most body builder or power lifter with a lot of heavy weight dead lift and squat, no matter how perfect form they have, once had or are having the back problem.

That being said, for squat and deadlift (you may think that I'm a wimp) I rarely do more than 100 pounds, but use more reps (about 20-30).   I don't think that higher reps will strengthen my muscle compare to high weight.   But I would rather be safe than sorry.

Yes, definitely Scooby always rants about safety, so let's see what's his say on this matter.

I think some people like doing squats, iv'e tried and a lot of preasure on my knees, i don't like that to much.  I usually just do leg presses and the ocasional leg curl and extension.  And the sumo deadlifts, i dont see how thats dangerous, just use lighter weights no ones telling you to go 300 or 600lbs.  Theres also dead leg, less effective but a lot less intense form.

For you deadlifters: Deadlifts with regular barbell are unsafe, but deadlift with hex bar is very safe to lower back and comfortable to do.

I really hope Scooby will make this video. One of my greatest "physical fears" is lower back problems. I get worried whenever my back hurts, and therefore I've included lower back exercises into my workout routine.

On the website, Scooby has demonstrated these exercises with pictures and text, but I feel that a video is needed in order to get the message through.

Lower back exercise is a good way to prevent any lower back problems BUT it also the easiest way to get injured if using bad form. I did deadlift & lying on the mat back extension (superman I think) but I have stopped a few weeks ago 'coz it's been a long time... when doing goodmorning for the hamstrings, lower back is also used, I don't want to put more stress on my lower back. BUT years passed by & I realized that I don't even suffer a back problem unlike my peers... Thanks to God & lower back exercise.

Deadlifting with a hex bar turns most of the deadlift into a DB squat variation. It is easier on the lower back and more comfortable to perform, but it's not the same posterior chain exercise.

This is the 1st time I've ever seen that type of weight... maybe it's just me 'coz I'm not a gym guy BUT seriously, that thing is so underrated - rarely mentioned in dead-lifting or any other mainstream trainer. Good info, Milehigh...

Everyone should be doing some sort of dead lift training no matter what your fitness goals are.

We all dead lift something everyday or lift objects of the ground. Be it your child, your cat, the sack of potatoes.

A strong back through dead lifting will help prevent injuries.

Deadlifts are probably one of the best exercises you can do, not only is it great for mass building, its probably one of the most usful lifts that can relate to real life, it teaches you how to use proper form when picking up heavy objects at work or what ever. And like any other exercise, wrong form will get you injured so you cant use that as an excuse.

alright guys.. lower back exercise video, not strictly dead lifts.. and since it's a SUGGESTION for scooby to make a video... and he's already said he won't do a dead lift video...i think that's not a productive area of discussion...

I have some links for neck exercises for Scooby, since it seems he is oblivious to the fact that you can work out your neck

I would not say oblivious.  Just that its never been a great demand for it.
