neck workouts don't have to be dangerous, some gyms have the machine for it, our school does. those harnesses are questionable though if you overload it..ever see one of those? No offense, but that image is scary... and it might be turning off people. (I agree with Dany, the day I wanna commit suicide I'll get one of those and swing it all around!).

you could grab a book in your mouth and just do next extensions from different angles you know lie on one side, then the other, now back then chest. that'l get you some where, and after that no clue unless you have a neck extension in your gym...
oooo just thought about something,,.. how about resistance bands?

I work out the front part of the neck by putting on a baseball cap, holding a plate on my forehead and doing crunches with only the neck.

That would be great, unless you are pushing with your neck backwards and you accidentally let it go right into your face... but if you are careful the are ok.

I think it's a bad idea. Unless you are a formula 1 racing car driver, you don't need to train your neck.

Wrestlers, rugby players, grapplers, (american football? I've never played it lol) - quite a few sports require neck strength. Definitely the first two in that list!!

well if it's about risk, pretty much every exercise has some risk; if it's a little joint pain (slightly bad form) or death (bench press) really depends on how you go about doing it. some exercises the benefit to some may outweigh the risk, but the others are willing to put a little extra work into being able to safely do another exercise. like i am afraid of doing squats with a bar on the back, but dodo and uglok love them. There's a lot to gain in squats, i only really see the potential loss. so there's an example of how to some it just seems dangerous but to others it's really something they want to do. nobody makes anyone do any exercise, it's just personal preference.

If you really want to build your neck effectively, put a towel on the ground and do some of this:
But take it slow and easy, keep your head in front of your body (face down) to start rolling with your head on the ground and hands either side to support/prevent too much weight going on your head at first. After a few months you'll progress up to something which a friend of mine and I used to do which made people literally scream and others tell us our necks were going to break. You see at 1:14 when he's on his back and pushing upwards/backwards? Well, we'd do that until your head was about at a 45 degree angle back from your body and you could see behind you, without hands to support - this puts a lot of stress on the neck so please don't try it until you have a built neck. The thing was, my partner in crime was a latvian freestyle wrestler, and a very serious one at that. He would have me put my FULL bodyweight on his chest whilst doing this (many people don't believe he had the neck strength until they saw us doing this). But he'd been doing things like this for years and in his wrestling you're allowed to grab the other person's neck and roll them over your body (to a point) which is extremely taxing, you need some real neck strength for it - he did it to me once and it hurt like hell. Crazy stuff; I haven't done any neck exercises in quite a while, so i'd have to start again from basics too.

Well, I think there are lots of people ''bodybuilding'' because they want to become stronger/faster.... to have a advantage in their sport (like me rugby )
