New study says 30 minutes of exercise a day is not enough. You should get 2x or 4x that much.
For years I have been preaching cardio and people on YouTube and Facebook fight me every minute of the way. I put 20-30 minutes into the workout plans because I could not justify putting more in although personally I have averaged 1-2hrs of cardio a day for the last two decades.
This was a huge meta-analysis that reviewed 12 studies involving 370,460 people with differing amounts of exercise. Over a period of 15 years, this group experienced 20,203 heart failure events. Each of the participants reported their daily activities, allowing the researchers to estimate the amount of exercise done.
What the study found challenges the current mantra that “30 minutes a day of cardio is enough”. The study suggests that cardio is “dose dependent” so to speak, meaning the higher the “dose” of exercise, the more protection you get against heart failure.
